Francesca Barraco produces wines near Mazara del Vallo, in southwestern Sicily, following a philosophy based on minimal intervention in the winery and with simple winemaking practices free of artifices. Her sole intent is to produce healthy and genuine grapes, which can give life to straightforward and expressive wines. The Catarratto "Ambras" is born from a skin maceration, which gives the wine a rich, mature, and complex profile, with aromas of ripe fruit, candied citrus peel, and a savory and fresh sip.
The Wine Box Barracco consists of 24 bottles of Catarratto "Ambras", a complex and long-lived macerated white, to be kept in the cellar without fear, indeed with the certainty that as the years go by it will express increasingly deep and elegant aromas. The Francesca Barraco winery manages an estate of 50 hectares between contrada Roccazzo and contrada Minnello, in the Mazara del Vallo area. The vineyards are managed according to the principles of organic farming with the typical grapes of the area: Catarratto, Grillo, Inzolia, and Nero d’Avola, however, among the rows there is also space for the international varieties Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Catarratto grapes come from bush-trained vineyards over 45 years old, cultivated on clay and limestone soils. After a 6-day maceration with the skins, the wine matures for 7 months in steel tanks before being bottled.
