 The small medieval village of Montalcino is located atop a hill, at an altitude of over 560 meters above sea level. The history of wine in these lands has ancient origins, dating back to the Etruscan and then Roman times. Already in the Middle Ages, the municipal statutes were accustomed to regulating the harvest dates, a testament to the importance of viticulture in the local economy. However, the history of Brunello di Montalcino, and especially its success at the national and international level,dates back to a rather recent period. The birth of Brunello di Montalcino is mainly due to the work of Clemente Biondi Santi and his nephew Ferruccio, who at the end of the 19th century sensed the potential of the terroir and began to select the best Sangiovese Grosso plants to vinify it in purity and age it in large Slavonian oak barrels. However, until the mid-20th century, the wines of Montalcino were little known and reserved for a small circle of enthusiasts from the area. Today, Brunello di Montalcino has acquired the status of a great wine and represents a flagship of our enology.
