The Barbaresco "Bricco San Giuliano" by Pasquale Pelissero is a classic, elegant, and fine version of this extraordinary wine from the Langhe. It is the expression of a vineyard located in the territory of the Geographical Indication San Giuliano, northwest of the ancient village of Neive, in the northern area of the denomination. It is a traditional interpretation, which involves a long aging process, almost exclusively in large barrels, allowing the wine to mature without being too marked by the wood. The result is a Barbaresco that retains the refined varietal notes of Nebbiolo, with floral aromas, delicate fruity scents, and subtle evolutionary hints.
The "Bricco San Giuliano" is a Barbaresco produced by a family-run winery that has been cultivating vineyards in the Langhe for a century. The Pasquale Pellissero estate takes its name from a hamlet in the village of Neive. The Barbaresco vineyards are cultivated at Bricco San Giuliano, at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, with sunny southwest exposure. The soils are characterized by calcareous-clay marl with the presence of sands, always suited for producing particularly elegant and refined wines. Following a careful and meticulous management of the vineyard, the work in the winery adheres to the oldest traditions, with simple fermentations and aging in large barrels. All company choices are aimed at producing straightforward and sincere wines that are an authentic expression of the terroir.
The "Bricco San Giuliano" Barbaresco is produced with Nebbiolo grapes from vineyards over 25 years old, cultivated in the homonymous cru of Neive. At the end of the harvest, the grapes undergo destemming and gentle pressing, with controlled temperature fermentation lasting about two weeks. The wine matures for a period of 24 months, 90% in French oak barrels of 25 and 30 hectoliters and 10% in new French oak barriques. The aging is completed with an additional 6 months in bottle before being released to the market. In the glass, it presents a bright ruby red color with slight garnet reflections. The olfactory profile is delicate, with floral puffs, aromas of small red berry fruits, subtle spicy sensations, hints of licorice root, and balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is harmonious and elegant, with subtle aromas, fine and evolved tannins. The finish is pleasantly fresh and persistent.
